I started this adventure when I had wanted to share my love of Grand Marnier, and it’s product line, with my friends and colleagues. That was early in 2019, it was well received, so I decided to broaden the scope, to learn about other brands, and other categories of spirits. Hard alcohol, or spirits are not well marketed in my opinion. Most people’s exposure to hard alcohol is at the neighbourhood bar, where ‘mixing’ or mixology is their goal. This type of alcohol is not meant to be consumed straight or “neat”. Some bars will have a ‘top shelf’ section in their display, where they have a small group of ‘better’ alcohols. But it’s hard to experiment, and the selection is limited, and the bartender often will not be able to tell you much about the selection. When you do order one, if you don’t like it, you’ve probably spent $20-$30 a shot, for something you didn’t enjoy.
My goal, is to learn about the alcohols, and bring my friends and colleagues along in my journey. To do the research, provide the details, buy the alcohol, and taste them as a group. This site is a record of those tastings, as well as a listing of the different spirits, we’ve tried, or want to try.
I also tried to provide advice for those who’d like to set-up their own tastings, or their own group to try similar tastings.
