Rum (1st one, Tasting #4)

Rum Tasting (May 8th, 2020)

This is a bad picture, taken at night.  I’m hoping to retake it.  It was our 1st rum tasting, and it shows based on my bottle selection.  It is more of a test on aging, looking at the El Dorado line-up.  It was an interesting test, 12 yr and 21 yr, almost got the same scores, 15 year seemed less popular, more muddled, IMHO.  One of the selections was a flavoured rum, and shouldn’t have been included in hindsight, but it was a nice dark chocolate flavoured rum.  The Plantation XO, 20th anniversary from Barbados is a very popular rum in the rum forums, but it didn’t win, nor even do that well.  I put in the Rumchata for fun, and because 7 shots is a lot for anyone to drink.  I believe creams are under rated, and get no respect, I’m trying to get the group to like creams, I might get there, you never know.

The bottles in question were;

TT Label Description Country Rating Price (CAD$)
A El Dorado 21 yr Guyana 6.9 $107 *
B Plantation XO, 20th Anniversary Barbados 5.3 $72.
C El Dorado 12 yr Guyana 6.9 $39 *
D Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva Venezuela 8.1 $62
E El Dorado 15 yr Guyana 5.9 $61 *
F Companero, flavoured Dark Chocolate Panama 5.0 $58
G RumChata United States 3.6 $31

* In order to keep the price down, I bought a gift pack of El Dorado, 3 half bottles, of the different aging, for $115.

This group really didn’t like creams, it’s sad, because Rumchata is pretty tasty.
